Sunday, August 21, there will be a ultra-rare full solar eclipse, and to mark the glorious event, raggedy-voiced ’70s and ’80s pop sensation Bonnie Tyler will be singing her most famous song “Total Eclipse of the Heart.” WHICH IS SO SYNERGISTIC, OMG. There IS a slight catch, however. She’ll be singing it aboard a Royal Caribbean cruise ship, so you’ll have to be a passenger if you want to be a part of the fun. The cruise ship tells BuzzFeed it will journey to the “optimal spot” for eclipse viewing, so… I guess it’s a surprise? Anyway, it sounds like a lot of fun, and it’s a perfect excuse for us to peruse some of her most iconic videos, starting, of course, with the batshit bananas “Total Eclipse of the Heart” (I remember being sooooo turned on by whatever the hell is going on in that house, what with the private school boys in the shower, and the angel, and flying demonic choirboys… Just watch it.)
And here is probably my favorite music video of all time “Holding Out for a Hero” – I mea. My GOD. How many times have I stood in a billowing white dress on the edge of a cliff belting out the lyrics to this song? TOO DAMN MANY, I tell you. TOO DAMN MANY.
Of course, no Bonnie Tyler video marathon would be complete without her first big hit “It’s a Heartache” which STILL has the power to make me weep for my middle school crush, Scott Awad. Every. Freakin’. Word. Man. It’s like I’m still there, sneaking a smell of his hair in the lunch line. Powerful stuff, music is. Sob along with me, below.
Anyway, if you think you might like to join the Royal Caribbean cruise with Bonnie for next week’s eclipse, go here to find out more.
