You don’t have to be butch to bird watch but it’s definitely not a hobby for the feint of heart. There are often rigorous hazards one has to endure – making your way through mosquito infested thickets of brush, staying clear of some truly monster snapping turtles in the marsh, or the joys of stepping on a spider crab as you wade through the bay following a family of swans. But all of these trials and tribulations seem well worth it when you capture that perfect shot or when you spot a species you haven’t seen before and excitedly whip out the trusty Audubon Society Field Guide to identify your new feathered friend. It’s a great hobby – and definitely not wimpy!
