Early this morning, Angela Raiola, known as Big Ang lost her battle with stage 4 throat cancer. She was fighting for her life through the night and many outlets falsely reported her death, but she did pass away early this AM. Series producer Jennifer Graziano said Raiola died at a New York City hospital after battling cancer for nearly a year. Family friend Vinnie Medugno confirmed her death on the “Mob Wives” star’s official Twitter account.
Raiola’s throat cancer returned this past December after a lemon-size tumor was removed from her throat in March 2015. Later, in June, she underwent the same procedure for the right side of her throat as well.
Raiola revealed on The Dr. Oz Show that she had left her husband, Neil Murphy, as she continued her cancer battle.
“I felt like he never stepped up to the plate, so I was done with it. Now, it’s too late. I would rather be by myself. I would rather be alone.”
She was surrounded by friends and family and her fans held out hope through the night. Big Ang was 55.
