Deadline today is reporting that Billy Eichner will co-write, executive produce, and star in the upcoming gay rom-com Bros.
It’s being billed as “the first gay romantic comedy from a major Hollywood studio” – which is weird to think about. There really hasn’t been one until now? It took till 2021? Shameful.
Anyway, it will supposedly focus on two men with commitment issues who attempt a relationship. It’s also described, in other reports, as the story of “two gay men maybe, possibly, probably stumbling towards love. Maybe. They’re both very busy.”
Billy’s love interest has yet to be cast.
It is due to be released by Universal on August 12, 2022, and will be directed by Nick Stoller (Neighbors, Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Get Him to Greek). Stoller will also write the script with Eichner.
Judd Apatow will serve as a producer on the movie.
