Michelle Obama delivered a great speech at the DNC Monday night, and shed some much-needed light on the historical significance of living the White House as its first African-American family,
“I wake up every morning in a house that was built by slaves,. I watch my daughters — two beautiful, intelligent, black young women — playing with their dogs on the White House lawn.“
Of course Fox News resident jackass, Bill O’Reilly LOVES history (and controversy) so of course he had to defend the working conditions slaves faced while building the White House on The O’Reilly Factor the next day,
“Slaves that worked there were well-fed and had decent lodgings provided by the government, which stopped hiring slave labor in 1802. However, the feds did not forbid subcontractors from using slave labor. So, Michelle Obama is essentially correct in citing slaves as builders of the White House, but there were others working as well. Got it all? There will be a quiz.“
More like SMUG jackass, I guess. Of course Twitter jumped in with their defense of the First Lady (for the most part)
Singer Kelly Clarkson praised FLOTUS on Twitter for her speech too,
“Damn! Just saw @MichelleObama speech at DNC tonight! That was amazing!! Love her 🎉🎉🎉 #imwithher #clinton”
And one of Kelly‘s fans replied to her saying,
“I’m not sure I liked the part where she said the White House was built by slaves.”
Kelly’s perfect response?
“Pretty certain the slaves that built it didn’t like it either.”
