Finnish rock band Lordi – masked, mysterious, and monstrous – has won the 2006 Eurovision song contest (more like International Idol) with their “Hard Rock Hallelujah,” which was broadcast from Greece. After winning with 292 votes from 38 countries, frontman Mr Lordi thanked the viewers and thrust a double-headed axe over his head. His and the band’s performances are a nod to rockers KISS. But unlike their role models, their face paint can’t mask their offstage dullness, judging by this clip from a press conference after the show where Mr Lordi fielded questions from the press like a gentleman and couldn’t provide even one exciting or amusing sound bite. Well, they’re new at it. And Finnish. (Go here to watch) Previous winners have been Katrina and the Waves (“Love Shine a Light,” 1997), Celine Dion (“Ne Partez Pas Sans Moi,” 1988), ABBA (“Waterloo,” 1974), and Lulu (“Boom Bang-a-Bang,” 1969). We think thisisaknife will have some interesting news about Lordi tomorrow here on the WOW Report.
