The new HBO film Coastal Elites is a series of monologues written by Paul Rudnick originally as a theater piece.
But because of the pandemic, it’s now a film. One of the monologues features Bette Midler as an UWS retired New York schoolteacher who’s educated, funny (possibly insane) and in police custody for snatching a MAGA hat off a man in a coffee shop.
A vocal opponent of Trump, none of that is a stretch for the Divine Ms. Midler these days. Except for one detail,
“I don’t live on the Upper West Side…”
