News broke yesterday that the two-time Oscar-winner would be donning the cape and cowl to star alongside Henry Cavill in the HIGHLY ANTICIPATED Man of Steel sequel. It goes without saying that the response was POLARIZING from some lauding it as a great choice to others wanting to vom into the nearest trash bin. I didn’t feel one way or another about it. In fact, I felt nothing but confusion and really didn’t know how to react. I like Ben Affleck. I do. I know! I know! Gigli, Jersey Girl, and Daredevil. But he’s officially redeemed himself in my books with Argo, The Town, and Gone Baby Gone. Now, do I think about him when I think Bruce Wayne? Not really. No. But I’m sure that’s how tons of people felt when Michael Keaton was cast in the 1989 adaptation and now he’s considered the end-all-be-all of Bruce Wayne/Batman’s by some fans. My point is we just gotta give Ben a chance. For the love of Ben! With all this newfound pressure, he’s probably gonna want to give the performance of his career just to stick it to the naysayers. According to some sources, he’ll be playing an older (think early 40’s) Bruce Wayne. Jaded and grumpy. Can Affleck pull that off? Again, only time will tell. But one thing is for certain, y’all. When it comes to Batman in the cinematic universe, he is ALWAYS changing. I was hoping for Eric Bana or maybe even Josh Brolin to get the call. Yet for better or worse, we’re getting Ben in black leather and spandex— and that’s really not that bad of an image. What do you think? Yay or nay?
