While the President is busy finding a way, ANY WAY, to stay in the White House, Melania is packing.
The third lady is determining what to put in storage, what goes to Trump’s New York City digs, and what should be shipped to Mar-a-Lago.
CNN reports that a source familiar with Melania’s state of mind says,
“She just wants to go home.”
Inventory is being taken at the White House of the Trump’s own furniture and art and personal items to be shipped to Mar-a-Lago from both the White House and Trump Tower.
Tham Kannalikham, the interior decorator Trump hired in 2017 to redesign the personal quarters of the White House, has lately been overseeing sprucing up the space that will now be the family’s permanent residence. Nothing major can be constructed on the property without a grueling permit process. Mar-a-Lago is a National Historic Landmark and permission by the city’s council to alter the façade or add an addition is unlikely.
For instance, as WOW reported, the helipad has to be removed, according to the agreement with the City Council of Palm Beach.
If they are moving out of NYC (Trump has filed his official residency as Florida) they are going to have to downsize for living permanently at Mar-a-Lago, which is approximately 3,000 square feet of the property’s main building. That’s big for most families, but almost a studio apartment when compared to the 55,000 square foot White House or the Trump Tower apartment at almost 11,000 square feet, according to Forbes’s.
Laurence Leamer, author of Mar-a-Lago: Inside the Gates of Power at Donald Trump’s Presidential Palace said,
“It will feel like staying full-time at a nice hotel.
It’s fine for a bit, sure, but can you imagine Donald Trump just sitting around there for six months of the year? It will start to feel confining very quickly.”
A steady stream of club members will be walking past the former President’s front door every time they go from the pool to the dining room, or the spa to the patio.
“It will be the weirdest thing.”
Leamer says if Trump is REALLY as wealthy has he says he is, he should close the club and return it to a private residence.
Also, Mom and Dad might be there a lot too. Viktor and Amalija Knavs, Melania’s parents, have stayed often at Mar-a-Lago for much of the two decades their daughter has been married to Trump.
“Her parents have a suite of rooms there as well, not far from the family quarters.”
On Saturday at the Georgia rally, Trump told the crowd after he left,
“I’d go to Florida … I’d take it easy.”
As if he has EVER worked hard while in the White House –or ever.
Prseident’s wives traditionally select a pattern for their official White House China. The Obama State China service, designed with the assistance of First Lady Michelle Obama, was selected in 2011 and it was delivered in 2015. Most presidents have served two terms, only a handful in the country’s history have not. They get delivery in their second term, so THAT’S not happening.
The official Trump china has only recently been addressed. Melania has selected patterns and colors for hundreds of place settings. A source familiar with the order said she won’t rely on the White House Historical Association to pick up the tab, as is often the case.
A full china service is not inexpensive, costing well into six figures because of the number of place settings for official state dinners.
While in residence, Melania has borrowed place settings from the official Clinton china set for the two Trump-hosted state dinners. There are 300-place settings of shiny gold plates and dishware selected by Hillary Clinton when she was first lady.
No wonder that flash gold china was borrowed, it suits the gold-plated Trump Tower aesthetic. But If Donald Trump has anything to do with the design, his will be solid 24 KT gold with the letters T-R-U-M-P in block letters around the rim. Preferably paid for by somebody else.
Needless to say it won’t see much use in the future. Maybe Jill can feed the dog on it.
“When will the trucks get here? Just take everything, all the paintings and furniture and Christmas crap, the whole building, put it all on eBay, my User ID is FirstLadyOutlet.
