Sotheby’s had its landmark Picasso sale last week, Christie’s unloaded a Warhol yesterday. The artist’s hand-painted 1962 work, Small Torn Campbell’s Soup Can (Pepper Pot), consigned by LA art dealer Irving Blum, was purchased for $11.7 million by art dealer Larry Gagosian for financier/collector Eli Broad. We couldn’t find a reproduction, but the image here is close enough – it’s Big Torn Campbell’s Soup Can (Pepper Pot). It’s just bigger. It’s nice that Andy’s art often came in S, M, and L, like fashion.
