After working with the not-so-disparate likes of Klaus Nomi, David Bowie, and Pee-wee Herman and cracking a whip in Cirque du Soleil’s R-rated Zumanity in Vegas, our old New York acquaintance, legendary drag queen and Billie Holiday channeler Joey Arias, has collaborated with famed puppeteer Basil Twist for a novel entertainment called Arias with a Twist, which has already been nominated for a 2009 Drama Desk Award for Unique Theatrical Experience. Dangerous Minds describes it as a “one-person” show with six puppeteers that starts off with Joey being probed by aliens while performing Led Zeppelin’s “Kashmir.” And with Joey, you know that’s just the beginning. Costumes for Joey and the puppets were designed by Thierry Mugler and Chris March. The production comes to Los Angeles from November 18 to December 13 at the REDCAT.
