Super-reclusive author JD Salinger has awakened from literary hibernation to protect the copyright of his most famous novel, 1951’s The Catcher in the Rye, and its protagonist, young Holden Caulfield. Seems some ambitious anonymity with the nom de plume JD California has written 60 Years Later: Coming Through the Rye, a sequel that places Caulfield in a retirement home in upstate New York. Salinger, now old enough to be in a retirement home himself (he’s 90), is suing to block publication. “It is a ripoff pure and simple,” claims the suit in plain English. (via NYDN)
