OMG. It’s the trailer for the Annie remake starring Quvenzhané Wallis, Jamie Foxx, and Cameron Diaz and YOU’RE GOING TO PLOTZ!
Quvenzhané Wallis IS the rag-tag orphan with the can-do spirit. Jamie Foxx IS the bombastic billionaire with the heart of gold. And Cameron Diaz, well, Cameron’s Cameron and she kind of misses the mark as the boozy, orphan-hating Miss Hannigan. (I would have gone with Courtney Love, but nobody asked me, and let’s just reserve judgment until opening day). Anyway – this looks AMAAAAAAAAZING. Transposing the story from the Depression to today works on a lot of levels and opens up the story to a more modern look and feel. I’m a sucker for a nice period piece, but they were going to get ME in the theater no matter what. It’s the tween audience they’ve got to target and New Deal jokes and Garbo references weren’t going to do THAT.
I’m sure gonna miss Ann Reinking and Geoffrey Holder, though. And Carol Burnett. And Tim Curry and Bernadette Peters. HEY! Where the hell are Rooster and Lily St Regis? THEY CAN’T HAVE ANNIE WITHOUT ROOSTER AND LILY ST REGIS (“like the hotel!”!)!
Omg, an they better include “Dumb Dog” I LOVE “DUMB DOG”. Do you know NOT A DAY HAS GONE BY since 1982 that I don’t sing that song (LOUDLY and WITH FEELING) to myself? True story. It’s some sort of Asbergers thing, I suspect, and woe be to any roommate or boyfriend who is subjected to it, but there you go. It might be my FAVORITE SONG IN THE HISTORY OF MUSICAL THEATER. Pleeeeeeeeeease have “Dumb Dog.” Watch it below NOW.
