As has been reported here, Hassanal Bolkiah, the Sultan of Brunei, owns the Dorcester Collection, some of the world’s most upscale hotels, including the the Bel Air and the Beverly Hills Hotel. Bolkiah has implemented Islamic Shariah Law, which calls for, among other human rights violations, the flogging of women who have abortions and the death by stoning to those who have gay or lesbian sex. Lots of celebs have protested and come out against the Sultan’s hotel group. Now add to that list Anna Wintour who authorized the Human Rights Campaign to advertise her boycott on behalf of Vogue. Brava! But “in good conscience”, she might also meet with the other Condé Nast editors she oversees and announce that ALL of CNP – Glamour, Vanity Fair, W, Details and on and on – is taking its business elsewhere. Maybe this is in the works already? Next up, Anna? Boycott fur, please.
