And while we’re on an internal who’s-what jag, Randy Barbato informs us that WOW alumnus Daniel Snyder has made a brilliant documentary called Dreams on Spec, concerning the plight of three aspiring screenwriters struggling to get their scripts made into movies. With only an alleged 1,935 regularly employed feature writers in Hollywood, it’s not easy to reach the level attained by Carrie Fisher, James L. Brooks, Gary Ross, and Nora Ephron, who weigh in with their success stories. Talking to the LA Times, Snyder says the explanation as to why there are so many people with screenplays in the world is that they all have stories to tell. “The film is more about the process and the internal rewards of writing as much as about the financial rewards down the line,” he says. The film is “a definite must-have for your DVD collection,” says Barbato.
