We’re curious. Did daytime’s darling Susan Lucci (“La Lucci,” as Regis addresses her) really say all that she’s quoted as saying in this ad for cheese in the back of the New Yorker? “Trust me, darling,” she supposedly said, “I know when a person deserves Emmi! Emmi of Switzerland makes award-winning* all-natural blah blah blah…. ” It’s in quotes, complete with “darling,” an asterisk, and double quotes within double quotes (shudder). It’s all very… well, aptly cheesy. But it was probably the ingenious and hilarious Emmi / Emmy play on words that finally convinced the famously Emmy-deprived-for-years All My Children star to endorse the product, don’t you think? It’s what grabbed us.
(We cut the ad in half; it’s the length of the page in the magazine.)
