We’re still more than a month out from the debut of American Horror Story: Freak Show, but more details about the upcoming fourth installment of the macabre anthology series keep emerging. The latest informed rumor is that Wes Bentley (American Beauty, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire) will play Edward Mordrake, a purportedly real 19th century aristocrat who was born with a second face on the back of his head. According to reports, Mordrake was an English heir who suffered from Diprosopus, with another face on the back of his head that could not speak or move regularly. It could, however, laugh and cry. Mordrake claimed that his second head, which he called his “evil twin,” would whisper to him at night. He begged doctors to remove it but none would risk a surgery. As the story goes, Mordrake committed suicide at age 23.
This wouldn’t be the first time AHS has looked to history for inspiration: Coven featured real-life antebellum murderess Madame Delphine LaLaurie (Emmy winner, Kathy Bates) and voodoo queen Marie Laveau (Angela Bassett). As we eagerly await October, here’s the poster!
