I love this. Consisting of five pretty boys who happen to be girls, Acrush members Lu Keran, An Junxi, Peng Xichen, Min Junqian and Lin Fan are all in their late teens and early twenties. And they say that while the band was put together like most manufactured pop bands by a management team, they were all rocking the androgynous look before they joined.
No album yet, or video, but is’t the music incidental with boybands anyway? The photo shoots and press junkets are where it’s really at.
The “A” before crush, btw, stands for Adonis, “the Greek myhological figure known for being extremely rugged and handsome.”
The group’s agent Zhou Xiaobai told Quartz that they are: “A group advocating freedom, not bounded by frames.”
It’s such a win-win concept– it advances genderqueer culture in China and allows straight boys to moon over boybands without shame. I’m already their biggest fan.
(And totally in love with Plaid Shirt and Short Sleeve T-shirt)
