Watch this totally real video of a ghost chasing a car in Blackburn, England. It’s the scariest thing YOU WILL EVER SEE. As the malevolent figure in white moves closer to the car, the terrified passengers yell “Move the car backwards,” and “Faster! Faster!” in Arabic. And yet… it’s unrelenting. Unfaltering. Ceaseless in its determination to EAT THEM UP (or whatever it is that ghosts do when they catch you).
And who is this evil spectre, you ask? Why, it’s the ghost of a monk who was murdered there 372 years ago this month, of course!
Or… is it just some poor old hunchbacked woman with a flat tire, trying to flag down some help? YOU DECIDE! (via boing boing)
Local historian and author Simon Entwistle told The Citizen newspaper that the “ghost” in the video may be the spirit of a monk who was executed in Turton Tower. “It’s the actual timing that I find quite unusual, this person was executed in early January 1643, and the ghost will only make an appearance in the early January period,” Entwistle was quoted as saying.
But Entwistle may not be the most objective expert. As commenters on that page pointed out, he hosts ghost tours of the area. While most viewers of the YouTube video say they believe the footage is fake, others admitted they enjoyed it.
As for the origins of the clip, one user on reddit claims the footage is part of a student’s film. Another, in the comments section of the Citizen, said the same footage was posted before and claimed to be from a different location.
