The 90’s are alive and well in Clea DuVall’s directoral debut “The Intervention.” A weekend getaway for four couples takes a sharp (and hilarious – thanks to Melanie Lynskey) turn when one of the couples discovers the entire trip was orchestrated to host an intervention on their marriage.
‘Intervention’ opened this year’s Outfest to a room of 1200 LGBTQ fans and advocates alike at the historic Orpheum Theater in downtown Los Angeles and audiences left delighted and dazzled.

Without further adou, here are the top five things we LOVED about the film.
5) TEGAN AND SARA SCORED THE SOUNDTRACK
If Clea DuVall and Natasha Lyonne reuniting isn’t enough of a lesbian dream made in heaven, Tegan and Sara scored the entire soundtrack and it’s illuminating.
4) BUT, I’M A CHEERLEADER REUNION
Yes, they reunited and they play girlfriends and it’s magic and you wish you could be the third wheel on any date between the two of them. (Let’s not forget that Lynskey was also in But I’m A Cheerleader!)
3) ALIA SHAWKAT IS THE PIXIE DREAM GIRL PERFECTION
Besides her queer turn in Broad City, and her upcoming show Search Party on TBS, (that we are obsessed with and can’t wait to see!), Shawkat plays the love-her-hate-her twenty-something that causes a lot more cabin trouble than she gives off.
2) CLEA DUVALL FOREVER
You’ve probably seen her in countless films growing up (she has acted in movies that premiered at Outfest for the last 17 years!) and playing the dual role of acting and directing, you’re gonna ask yourself, “How does she do it all?!”
1) MELANIE LYNSKEY IS BAE AND SHOULD WIN AN OSCAR
You’ve seen her in Heavenly Creatures and Sweet Home Alabama but in “Intervention,” she’s raw, funny, sweet, and intimate in a completely new and refreshing way and clearly the star of the film. I couldn’t wait til she came back onscreen every time!
Go out and support Outfest!
