Beyoooooooooond stylish Season 7 winner Violet Chachki has a sit-down with Attitude magazine (available to download now and on newsstands Wednesday) in which she talks about life after Drag Race, being a role model for younger kids, and the eternal sisterhood of drag.
“There’s tons of pressure, especially being a winner,” she tells the mag. “As far as being a role model is concerned, drag to me has always been punk, it’s always been underground so it’s a weird thing for it to become so mainstream.
“Before Drag Race the stuff I was doing was a lot more raunchy… so it’s weird to have a younger fan base. You have to think about what’s appropriate and what’s not.
“I have to remind myself that it doesn’t matter who’s watching, you can be a role model by being more what drag is essentially about”.
About her Drag Race family and traveling with on the Battle Of The Seasons live tour, she says:
”I think there is a sisterhood with everyone… you can especially see that after what happened in Orlando
“I was on tour with these girls when it happened and I looked around and was like, ‘oh my God, these girls are really my family.’”
The September issue of Attitude magazine, with Naomi Campbell and Jussie Smollet on the cover, comes out Wednesday.
