Heroes of Bad Taste was WOW-produced pilot from 2003 that celebrated icons of tackiness like Cher, Marilyn Manson, Dolly Parton and – SURPRISE! – future Presidential nominee Donald J Trump! Comedian Kathy Griffin and others gush about his bizarre combover, his gilded penthouse, and his penchant for brassy blondes. Surprisingly (or not), Donald, himself, agreed to be interviewed about his bad taste. “Less is more,” he tells the camera, conspiratorially. “But usually it doesn’t work out that way. It sounds better than it is, but I think in practice more is generally more.” HA!
Among the many OTHER surprising reveals from the 3-minute clip: In the back of his limousine, Der Trumpf keeps a stash of 12 giant aerosol hair spray cans that he continually uses to keep his combover shellacked and wind-proof.
You must watch it, below.
One of the producers of the show had this to say about the segment:
We were doing casting on HEROES OF BAD TASTE, and I had sent him an interview request. A few days later, my phone rang and it was Trump, personally calling to find out more about the project. He was very gruff and to-the-point, and said he’d get back to us.
I was shocked that someone of his stature would make a call like that personally – it’s never happened to me before or since – authors, actors, musicians, CEOs – they all have an assistant or publicist handle that kind of thing. I thought it was illustrative of his love for publicity – it was so important to him that he obviously felt it necessary to do these calls himself.
Knowing what we know now about Donald Trump and his publicist alter egos John Miller and John Barron, this makes perfect sense.
