NYC gender bender Marti Gould Cummings performed a rock homage cabaret show at Feinstein’s/54 Below the other night, and the place was packed! With a set list that included songs by Led Zeppelin, Ozzy Osbourne, Green Day, and Rod Stewart, Cummings stepped out of his performance comfort zone, which consists usually of Broadway standards, and slayed the crowd! Along with his band Marti and the Cummers, led by Zeppelin and Robert Plant collaborator Eric Miranda, also joining him on stage, Tony Award winner Cady Huffman and theater stars Hernando Umana (Kinky Boots) and Michelle Dowdy (Hairspray). “I grew up listening to classic rock with my dad in the car,” says Marti Gould Cummings. “The first concert I ever went to was Eric Clapton when I was 8. That same year, my Dad took me to see Fleetwood Mac. Rock classics are completely new territory for me. But as an artist, it’s important to try new things out of your comfort zone.”
