Oh what a great honour it is to hold the EU presidency. And what better way to celebrate than with a big load of art. The Czech president commissioned 27 artists, one from each country, to create something that reflected the sense of unity we all feel with our continental brethren. Or so he thought.

Actually, unbeknownst to him, all £350,000 went to Czech shock-artist David Cerny and his mates. Which they used to create a giant airfix set that insults each European country in turn. Bulgaria is series of squat toilets; Denmark is a Lego creation that looks a little bit too much like one of those muslim cartoons; but surely worst of all is Germany, which is depicted as a bunch of motorways in the shape of a swastika.

"We wanted to find out if Europe is able to laugh at itself," he says. The answer is clearly no.
