Vintage Hollywood Graft

police corruption old hollywood Marilyn Monroe Autographs During Hollywood’s Golden Age, Beverly Hills traffic officer Roy Garrett would routinely pull over movie stars and say “I’ll let you off from this speeding ticket if you send me a signed photo.” Some stars signed their photos with appreciative or blandly friendly notes. Marilyn Monroe’s headshot contains this message: “To Roy, love and kisses. Thanks for keeping me out of the clink!” Lex Barker (my absolute favorite Tarzan) sent a menacing photo of himself holding up a knife and wrote, “To Roy, best wishes. And don’t let this scare you.” All of Garrett’s autographed photos are part of an auction of Hollywood memorabilia at Heritage Auctions in Beverly Hills. (via HuffPo)
