New York by way of Kansas City band SSION (pronounced “shun”) have made a pretty fabulous 3-part video for their new song “Luvvbazaar.” The first part looks like a superfun afterhours club with drag queens and club kids and shirtless hipster boys all grooving to singer Cody Critcheloe. The second part features Cody tripping at an all-night CVS pharmacy to Alicia Keye’s solo version of “Empire State of Mind” which is charming but slightly wtf. The third part features a drag queen singing a slow dance version “Luvvbazaar” that takes me back to last call at Sound Factory (it’s OK to skip this part). “The video,” says Rich Juzwiak of Gawker, “pretty much captures what going out looks like in New York, or at least what going to a SSION show looks, as people revel in the fabulousness of unfabulousness amongst wall-to-wall references.” Not sure what the “fabulousness of unfabulousness” means, but OK.
