“Drag for me has never quite been about the masculine or the feminine, but instead about accentuating the contours of the face. I picked up an airbrush over 6 years ago now and have never looked back since. I can spend hours in front of the mirror paying attention to each line of my face, picking and choosing what to highlight or contour. I was attracted early on to using clown white as a base because of the heavy contrast it can create. When I lived in NYC, in my early 20s, my main stage art form was burlesque, as opposed to drag (I can’t lip sync for sh*t!). Since I’ve been in science all of my life, much of my performance ended up being wacky and science inspired. Currently, my performance career is a bit on the back burner, as I’m working on my PhD in Neuroscience and Clinical Psychology at the University of Colorado Boulder. While I do still turn looks, much of my creative energy has been going into science illustrations for the presentations that I give. It’s my intention to merge my love of science communication with my creative talents even more in the near future!”
