Angela Bassett looking FAF (fierce as fuck) – OF COURSE – on the New Orleans set set of American Horror Story: Coven, wearing – omg, is that a leather turban? Will someone please give the costume designer ALL THE EMMYS next year? And maybe market that shit to drag queens? These outfits are SLAYING ME. (Photos Pacific Coast News)

Kourtney Kardashian in Miami, and I’m going to give this a tentative “yes.” True, she looks like a child playing dress-up, and I don’t particularly like myself for posting a Kardashian sister on the blog, but I like the tunic, the glasses, and yes the cheap dimestore turban. Worn individually they’re all pretty wow. But wearing them together takes chutzpah, and she pulls it off. So welcome to the WOW Report, Kourtney. Just don’t get too comfortable. From travel photographer Charles Fred’s flickr: “The Tihami people who inhabit the Tihama area are extremely unique because they shun modern ways and prefer to live following their own rich heritage which is clearly demonstrated in their dress, housing, daily lives and celebrations. Unlike the majority of men in Saudi Arabia who wear the traditional white thobe, the men of Tihamah wear colorful sarong-like izars. Men in the Tihama area are often referred to as ‘Flower Men’ because they will sometimes wear a ring of sweet-smelling herbs and flowers in their hair. There are not many photos of the Flower Men of Tihama on flickr, or indeed on internet. They live in a very remote part of Saudi Arabia near the border with Yemen and there are many road blocks and security checks before you are allowed into the area. In fact,. I think foreigners/westerners are not supposed to go there without a permit band a guide, but somehow we managed it. INitial requests to take photos of these chaps was met with a no or a wave of the index finger, but eventually we managed to get them to warm to the camera, with these (and a few more as the result). I was very happy to ‘get’ them!” As am I!
I also included two random pictures Charles Fred took at the Nizwa livestock market in Oman (below), because yummy bears in fabulous turbans, why not? (via Sissy Dude)
I’m pretty sure this is a Dumalla, which Sikhs wear into battle, and I’m guessing that the size and number of Chand Toras (those crescent-shaped thingies) probably has something to do with his exalted religious status. Somebody please enlighten me, because I’m totally wearing one of these to the Abbey this weekend, and I’d like to know what sort of heresy I’m committing before I’m slaughtered for it. Pathé Pictorial in conjunction with fashion expert Anne Edwards teaches WWII-era women to make turbans from scarves, as hats were being rationed. It starts off very basic but gets more and more complex as it goes along. “You can stab the knot with a couple of feathers or twist one of the scarves into a sort of beehive and tip it over at a tricky angle. Why, there’s nothing easier in the whole wide world,” the announcer tells us. “And the result is a natty little pussy cap!” So chic! (via Antipodean Homo)
