This video to drum up votes for Teen Wolf at the Teen Choice Awards is absolutely REVOLUTIONARY and here’s why: It shows Tyler Hoechlin and Dylan O’Brien draped over each, on a ship (GET IT? BECAUSE PEOPLE ‘SHIP THEM?), promising to take their relationship to the next level if the show wins. Not only is it openly acknowledging the gay subtext of the show but it’s using homosexuality to curry the favor of teenagers. Let me say that again: It’s using HOMOSEXUALITY to curry the favor of TEENAGERS. Sociologically speaking, that’s SEISMIC. It says that for kids in 2012, ACTING GAY is what makes this show cool. And the PDA between its male stars is what makes the girls swoon. It’s like the boys of One Direction who instinctively get that old Woody Allen chestnut about bisexuality doubling your dating pool, except nowdays it increases your fan base exponentially. Being gay, or gay-ish, is what makes you popular. Teen Wolf is actually teaching this generation that BOYS CRUSHING ON BOYS is THE NEW NORMAL. And that’s just about the coolest thing I’ve ever seen.
