Check back here next Wednesday for a new episode of Polka Spot’s Countdown to the Beekman Wedding Special.
On June 28 just two days after DOMA was struck down by the Supreme Court, the always Fabulous Beekman Boys tied the knot, officially! World of Wonder was there to capture the special moment that took place on their farm, Beekman 1802, in Sharon Springs, New York. “The Beekman Boys were the first gay couple to be the leads of a reality show so it’s only fitting that we capture their vow exchange on film,” said Fenton Bailey, Co-EP of World of Wonder. ”We assembled the original Fabulous Beekman Boys team to cover the event, including director Angela Rae Berg.” Josh Kilmer-Purcell and Brent Ridge are best known for starring in The Fabulous Beekman Boys (now airing on Cooking Channel) as well as being the grand prize winners on The Amazing Race last December. These two city slickers turned goat farmers met in the year 2000 in New York City, but their lives quickly changed when they bought the farm in 2007. ”For those who have followed our story from the beginning, now they’ll get to see if dreams really do come true,” said Brent Ridge. ”The gays have been throwing the best weddings for straight couples for years. See how fabulous it is when they throw their own!” Among the 300 friends and family at the wedding were James Frey, Natalie & Nadiya (twin sisters from The Amazing Race) and, of course, Martha Stewart, who aired the nuptials on her Sirius XM show. In light of recent events, Josh and Brent could not have timed the wedding better. Although you can’t plan the weather, and the outdoor event was circled with dark, looming rain clouds. But rain or shine, these boys were getting hitched. The Beekman Wedding Special will be available on DVD and Amazon Instant Video starting September 21, the same day as the Harvest Festival in Sharon Springs. But first we bring you the premiere of the Polka Spot’s Countdown to the Beekman Wedding Special, a webseries documenting every detail of the day before the wedding. Only on WOWPresents, starting today!
“Many of you have asked about the camera crews in the photos of the wedding that are popping up online. World of Wonder, the production company who made The Fabulous Beekman Boys gave us AND you a wonderful wedding present. They flew out many of the original crew to film the entire wedding and events preceding it. It will be edited into a very special episode that you’ll be able to download from Amazon early this fall.” – The Beekman Boys. Read more at Mother Nature Network.
Well, I read The WOW Report too, you know, so I decided to call in to Martha Stewart‘s radio show. She was broadcasting live from Brent & Josh’s front porch. I stayed on the line for a while, until the very end when I was the last caller Martha took. I was able to congratulate the boys and ask about their guests. They said they were all milling around on the lawn and, in the event of rain, they have a tent set up (the manufacturer actually called in earlier to ask about it and Martha told them she wants them to make her one too. TCB.) Martha asked if they thought she could win The Amazing Race if she went on? Josh and Brent said “Yes!” without hesitation. They also said they recently bought a historic building in Sharon Springs with their Amazing Race winnings, and it is now their new flagship headquarters. Besides their own products, they are working with some two dozen artisans. In fact, their weaver made the tie Brent wore today and the blacksmith made Josh’s ring. (Maybe it was vice versa – hard to tell without a visual.) Anyway, other folks called in to wish them well and it sounds like it was all perfectly lovely. And it’s all being filmed, natch, so you’ll get to see the whole deal in the fall. Ain’t love grand?
Brent Ridge and Josh Kilmer-Purcell are the covergays for the current issue of Frontiers magazine! The boys talk about their new cookbook Heirloom Desserts, how they won The Amazing Race, and you’ll never guess how the boys met. They also discuss what they plan on doing with all the money they won while on The Amazing Race. Click here to read the full article. (via Frontiers)
