People laughed this morning when Businessweek headlined an article: “If Yahoo Buys Tumblr, What Will It Do With All That Porn?” But it was A LEGITIMATE QUESTION, YOU GUYS. Tumblr is notorious for it’s, how shall we say, freewheeling approach to modern living, while Yahoo! can be a bit more… uptight. What would happen to all those glorious gay porn GIFs on sites like Chadley MacGuff and BehindChanelSunglasses that help me get through every work day? Not to worry. According to HuffPo: “Yahoo chief executive Marissa Mayer emphasized that Yahoo! wants to ‘let Tumblr be Tumblr,’ which she suggested would include allowing its numerous X-rated accounts to continue pumping out pornography undisturbed.” Said Mayer; “I think the richness and breadth of content available on Tumblr – even though it may not be as brand safe as what’s on our site – is what’s really exciting and allows us to reach even more users.” WHEW! That’s a relief. Of course, it’s probably not going to stop the mass exodus of Tumblr users who consider Yahoo! the kiss of death. “If Tumblr becomes another Myspace, I’ll never use the internet again!” grumbles one angry Tumblr.
