The not-so-progressive Governor of New Jersey just withdrew his appeal to the law that makes the Garden State the fourteenth (plus the District of Columbia) to legalize gay marriage. Oh yeah, and these guys can get married to whomever they want, too.

“I don’t like to badmouth people. But I’m the head of a monarchy that began in the ninth century, and I’m apparently more modern than Chris Christie. Look, I know he has to appeal to the crazy right-wingers in his party, but the fact is, he’s not as forward-thinking as an eighty-seven-year-old lady who wears a crown on her head. It’s pathetic.” – Queen Elizabeth II, tearing New Jersey governor Chris Christie a new one for not legalizing gay marriage in his state, as she has done in England and Wales. We’ve all known— and by “we” I mean nerds like myself— that the Dark Knight’s stomping grounds were located somewhere in the northeast. We just never really knew where specifically or cared very much for that matter. That’s what made Gotham City so great. It just EXISTED and that’s all we needed to know. But recently WOW blogger James St. James brought it to my attention that the Huffington Post published a story via BuzzFeed about the city’s actual coordinates because, you know, that’s newsworthy stuff right there. Anyway, it’s been determined that Batman’s hometown is in fact located in the Garden State. Yes, you read right. New Jersey. When I learned this, I really didn’t know how to react. I’ve never been to the state but have heard a WIDE array of opinions on it from, “Yay! It’s the best!” to “Yuck! It’s soo gross.” I really don’t have anything to say about Jersey. I just… nothing it. But I will say that pinpointing the whereabouts of a fictional universe just sucks the fun and appeal out of it. Does it sound AT ALL cool when you hear that Batman fights crime in New Jersey? No. Just no. Leave it alone. Gotham City works just fine by itself. In saying that, I will ignore BuzzFeed’s investigative reporting and not acknowledge this discovery. It didn’t happen.
Jersey-born Gina Cinderelli has had it up to Snooki’s hair poof with her stepmotha and her step-sistas. She cooks, she cleans, and she’s in charge of filling and refilling her evil Stepmotha’s glass of chianti. One day, she gets an invite from Facebook that will change her life foreva. Created by co-WOW-worker, Lori Elberg and her friend Tanya Bershadsky. “I did not know her mudda, but I heard she was a whore. She had good bangs though.” (t/y Lori)
It’s official. The princess of the Garden State is knocked up and tying the knot! Snooki aka Nicole Polizzi is marrying and carrying her boyfriend Jionni Lavalle’s baby.
Following that announcement, word has it this may be MTV’s last season of Jersey Shore. The show can’t go on without Snooks. I mean, imagine Family Matters without Urkel, Happy Days without the Fonz. It’s just not possible to imagine, is it?
Meanwhile, somehow Jionni was able to afford a $50,000 five-karat yellow diamond. (Oh wait, I don’t think it’s supposed to be yellow –yikes!)
Great news! The New Jersey Assembly has passed the marriage equality bill that the State Senate passed last week. And even though Governor Christie has promised to veto the bill, the legislature will have over a year to come up with the votes to override the governor. Good job, New Jersey! Keep up the fight.
Related: Maryland’s House of Delegates should be voting on their state’s marriage equality bill at any moment.
New Jersey lawmakers will submit legislation today to legalize marriage equality for gays and lesbians in that state. Supporters hope to gain a veto-proof majority to keep Governor Christie from vetoing the bill if it passes. The state of Washington has also announced that legislators there will submit a bill to legalize marriage equality. Washington has the support of its governor to pass the legislation but will still face opposition.
So, now two more states have decided bravely to push for full equality. And what’s that, Mr President? Still keeping quiet? Still don’t have the courage to evolve already? COWARD! (Photo via The Star-Ledger)
