It’s about an introvert (Joaquin Phoenix) who falls in love with an artificially intelligent operating system (voiced by Scarlett Johansson). It also stars Amy Adams and Rooney Mara and was written by director Spike Jonze. Looks a tad geeky. Not a complaint. Arriving in theaters on November 20.

Joaquin Phoenix on the set of Inherent Vice, which co-stars Maya Rudolph, Benicio Del Toro, Owen Wilson, Sean Penn, and others and is shooting in Los Angeles. We’re not entirely sure Phoenix is in costume here; it’s very possible he could have arrived on set in this getup. In Paul Thomas Anderson’s Thomas Pynchon adaptation, Phoenix plays a pot-smoking private eye with mutton chops and a Panama hat, so maybe he really was fresh from Wardrobe when this photo was snapped. Male stars walked the red carpet for the 2013 BAFTA Awards in London. From the top (as if you don’t know): Joaquin Phoenix, Javier Bardem, Bradley Cooper, Tom Hooper, John C Riley, and Daniel Day-Lewis. Oh, and that’s not dandruff on their jackets. We checked. It was (no surprise) raining hard in London yesterday – sleet, even. So those are raindrops fallen on their heads and shoulders, sparkling in the paps’ flashes. (Photos: Pacific Coast News)
Says Joaquin about his brother now: “River and I would talk about being old, being in our 50s together, how it’d probably take us that long to get to work together. There was something gorgeous about us being old together. River will be missed – period. I mean now, more than ever I wish I could talk to him.” (via Sinister Lava)

Actor Joaquin Phoenix and director Paul Thomas Anderson pose at a photocall for Anderson’s The Master at the 69th Venice Film Festival. As you know, the already controversial film stars Philip Seymour Hoffman as an L Ron Hubbard-type religious-cult leader. So there will be blood. (Photos: Pacific Coast News)
Here’s a sneak peek at Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Master, a drama set in the 1950s and rumored to be the There Will Be Blood director’s take on Scientology, with Philip Seymore Hoffman, Amy Adams, Laura Dern, and Joaquin Phoenix, the soldier being interviewed in this cryptic teaser trailer, in case you didn’t recognize him. We didn’t at first. We need to be trailer-teased a few more times.
