Google just released its annual Zeitgeist video showing “how the world searched” in 2012. After 1.2 trillion searches in 146 languages were conducted, here are the events, people and conflicts that dominated the news cycle over the last year.

Almost 20 years ago, AT&T had a series of commercials that told us to get ready for iPads, e-books, Netflix, Skype, GPS, supermarket self-checkout lanes, online college courses, online ticket sales, and Suri (among many, many other things). It seemed like a bunch of science fiction at the time, but almost EVERYTHING in those commercials has come to pass. So maybe we shouldn’t be so quick to dismiss those nutty Project Glass ads by Google.
