Madonna is starting to use Instagram the way we fans hoped she would, to give us glimpses into her private world and not just for advertising what projects she has coming up, though we love that too. Rocco gives us another taste of his dance moves, this time while cruising on a yacht (such parallel lives my idol and I live, only I cruise in a six-year-old minivan). I love hearing mommy Madge in the background. They both have birthdays this month, Madonna will be 54 on the 16th and Rocco turns 13 on August 11.

From Curbed: “Tomorrow begins the massive sell-off of the estate of Steve Rubell, the late co-owner of NYC’s Studio 54, the ’70s nightclub that ‘made Halloween in Hollywood look like a PTA meeting,’ according to actress Lorna Luft, and served as ‘the beating heart of the city’s disco scene,’ according to the New York Times, which dubbed Rubell a ‘master promoter’ and one of the ‘first pashas of disco’ in his 1989 obituary. Up for auction are scads of one-of-a-kind pieces, from furniture to home accessories, fine art, photographs, and ephemera, ranging from crisp midcentury classics to the effusive chrome designs of the 1980s. Included: Andy Warhol Polaroids, paintings, and sculpture; Gio Ponti dining chairs, lounge chairs, and cocktail tables; circa-1970 furnishings by Paul Evans; a mirror by Salvador Dali; Philippe Starck light fixtures and stools (the ones from Star Wars); and many more design prizes, not to mention photographs of ‘merrymakers like Diana Ross, Frank Sinatra, Truman Capote, and Liza Minnelli,’ according to the Times.”
Little Miss DQ of the UK is giving me major life right now. This is why we need a UK season of RuPaul’s Drag Race, among other reasons, and I have about a thousand. DQ aims to be the most famous drag queen in the UK and is realizing her dreams after appearing as one of Snow White’s dwarves in a Christmas play and playing a goblin in Harry Potter. TV needs DQ.
A tense and vaguely unsettling commercial for Lady Gaga’s new fragrance, Fame, “the first ever black Eau de Parfum. Black like the soul of fame but invisible once airborne, made from pulverized apricot, crushed heart of Tiger Orchidea, and tears of Belladonna.” The bottle was designed in collaboration with Nick Knight, and the advertising campaign was shot by Steven Klein. Fame comes out on the market in September.
I’m actually interested in smelling this, though I am admittedly a sucker for celebrity fragrances. Here is a look at the first ad, shot by the legendary Steven Klein. Gaga promised her little monsters some of her very own blood in the first batch so that each bottle would have some of her DNA (though I don’t get that since perfume isn’t made like Kombucha tea, but whatevs). Fame is the first black eau de parfum, it goes on clear and smells like an expensive hooker. See why I need to own it? (via Twitter)
Oh honeys, we all saw this starting to unfold when she was a toddler, but now that she is 14 and ready to take on the world of acting? This right here is the face of a superstar. Paris Jackson talks to Oprah this coming Sunday evening about her fledgling acting career, but mostly about how she and her brothers are coping with the loss of their father Michael almost three years later. Absolutely breathtakingly beautiful.
And I’ll tell you why this is news. Every day – EVERY SINGLE DAMN DAY, I kid you not – for the past few months, a certain web site who shall remain nameless has posted pictures of Vanessa Hudgens and Austin Butler DOING THE MOST BANAL THINGS IMAGINABLE. Hud-But at the gas station, going to the gym, in the parking lot at Whole Foods, leaving IKEA, you name it. Always looking like OH! I CAN”T BELIEVE THEY FOUND US! Always in mid-smooch. Always slightly disheveled like they HAD NO IDEA THEY WERE GOING TO BE PHOTOGRAPHED! And it was SO OBVIOUS that they, or their publicist, had set up these little photo ops to up their profiles. Of course Vanessa is already a big star, but the one who got the most benefit from this exposure was Austin, who until then, had done little more than appear on Disney TV shows and a Lifetime movie that went nowhere. NOW he’s got himself a high-profile CW show (The Carrie Diaries) in which he get’s FOURTH BILLING, and is featured heavily in the promo trailers and commercials. He’s being touted as a hunky breakout star. AND SUDDENLY WHAT DO WE HAVE? Austin SHOPPING ALONE. Without Vanessa. For the first time. Testing the waters of his new fame. It’s like when rappers first guest rap on someone else’s hit single before releasing their own hit. Austin has guest starred in Vanessa’s phot ops, now he’s taking his first tentative steps to his own photo ops. Congratulations, Mr Butler. You’ve been photographed by yourself coming out of a grocery store. How does it feel to be famous?
