It has come to light that former Nazi, Pope Benedict XVI, when he was Cardinal Ratzinger, back in 2003, wrote what could be called a fan letter to Gabriele Kuby, a staunch critic of JK Rowling’s Harry Potter books, who in her own book, Harry Potter: Good or Evil?, accuses the series of “corrupting the hearts of the young, preventing them from developing a properly ordered sense of good and evil, thus harming their relationship with God while that relationship is still in its infancy.” Got all that? His letter clears up a former misunderstanding that the Vatican digs Harry Potter. (Life Site)

“It is good, that you enlighten people about Harry Potter, because those are subtle seductions, which act unnoticed and by this deeply distort Christianity in the soul, before it can grow properly,” wrote Cardinal Ratzinger.

With Rowling’s latest volume, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, dropping into bookstores this Saturday, she couldn’t have bought better publicity.
