The battle for the OC is about to begin!
Are YOU ready for it? Our newest Bravo show, Real Estate Wars, premieres this Thursday at 10/9c and, trust us, you want to be watching. The show centers on two top-performing real estate teams in Orange County California.
Rival teams, Team McMonigle, led by John McMonigle and Team Relegance, lead by JoJo Romeo-Watson, come head to head on real estate listings in the beautiful OC. With a history of bad blood between the two heads of each team, some insane drama goes down on the first season.
In order to get to know the cast prior to the premiere episode this THURSDAY, October 5th at 10/9c on Bravo, we spoke with some of the cast members. Next up is the head of Team Relegance, none other than JoJo Romeo-Watson!
A self-proclaimed n0-nonsense business woman, JoJo has closed more than 400 million in real estate sales since 2011. Pretty impressive if we do say so ourselves. In addition to being a bada$$ business woman, JoJo is also a proud mother of five children all ranging from ages 10 to 25.
Get to know JoJo better by checking out our interview with her below!
C: What are you most excited for viewers to see in the first season of Real Estate Wars?
JoJo Romeo: That’s a good question, um, I would say, all that goes into a real estate transaction cause it’s so much more involved than other people think. I also want them to see how differently I do business because I don’t take it as – ‘ these people are’ you know.
These are just addresses right? No, these are people and selling their home is just a disguise for a huge transition in their life. So getting involved is huge, right? Why are they selling? Is it a death or divorce or a graduation? Why are they buying a house? Is it a marriage?
There is a huge emotional aspect tied to every transaction and I think that’s when people are going to see what makes me different. Of course, I also have to balance so many things in my life because I have five kids. I am a single mom, and you know, I’m excited to inspire. I’m really excited to inspire women. You can totally do it all. You can absolutely do it all and have balance and do it well. And do it, you know, with grace.
C: The real estate shows on TV are very male skewed but this one of the first shows where the cast is predominantly female, right?
J: Yes! And of course all of the women are so very different and in different age categories. So I am excited about seeing that, of course, because you know you are seeing a woman’s environment AND single moms. So I’m really excited about inspiring and finally getting women on these shows, damnit!
C: What was one of your favorite moments to film from season one?
J: One of my favorite moments? Well if I had to… oh gosh there are so many. This is hard. See, I don’t know what they are going to use and what they are not going to use, so there was a day we did filming with my two boys and we were just throwing football at the park. And you know, I can throw a football with a 20 yard spiral. We were literally playing a game of tackle and it was so fun. I don’t know if they will show any of that but I have a real passion for football and sports. So that was a fun day.
I think another interesting day was the day I got locked out of one of my listings. I ended up, freaking, moving furniture in heels. This all – true story- went down and I got locked out. So the movers left, and then when the seller finally let me in- I was left with one other gal and we were literally tearing down furniture. That kind of ties in with your last question because you never know what each day is going to hold. So this is a perfect example of like, ‘holy shit- today I am going to be a mover!’
C: OH WOW! So season one shows that being a realtor isn’t a normal every day job?
J: Yes, it’s not your mundane 9-5 where you know what is going to happen every day. People are so different and the job involves buying AND selling a house. What people don’t understand is you’re spending a sh*t ton of money right? There are a lot of emotions and a lot of highs and lows go along with a huge transaction like that. So you get to see all parts. So many times you’re a therapist or sometimes I feel like a hairdresser because you get to hear it all.
C: What do you want viewers to know about you before they watch the show?
J: First of all, that I am so proud of my accomplishments but first and foremost, my greatest accomplishments are my five kids. It’s true, they are my inspiration. Sure, this is about luxury real estate and all these commissions and all this stuff but at the end of the day, it is family first.
I almost lost my son, you know, he drowned and I resuscitated him. When that happens it puts things in perspective really quickly. I swear after that day, you know, nothing is going to phase me. They are such great kids and all of us are so close and I’m even close with my ex husband. We have always put the kids first so we’ve got a great co-parenting routine. So, I would say my family is my greatest accomplishment.
C: Can you describe your fantasy home; where it is and what it would look like?
J: I ultimately want to end up in Laguna Beach because it’s super down to earth. You know, flip flops and baseball hats and that is totally me. It’s super casual. It would be either on the sand or at least have a panoramic view. That’s my zen place. Not too big, just like 3500 square feet. Mostly white, cozy, you know I am all about aesthetics. It has to be feng shui. That zen feel to it.
C: What are three things you tell your clients to ask about before they buy a home?
J: Is your family going to be happy here because – what people get stuck on sometimes is they are looking at the house but you aren’t buying a house. You are buying a community. You are buying a lifestyle right? You really need to get to know that neighborhood, that area and make sure that you are going to be happy there.
You know, I love Laguna but you have to be super careful in the summer because it is a nightmare right? For me I want to be in North Laguna so I can get out. Things like that, you know you have to- I always- when I take a client out go, ‘okay, we aren’t just looking at this house. We’ve got to really look at this.’ That’s why I do so well in specific communities like the one I live in because I make sure I am selling the lifestyle. I take them down to the school, help their kids get registered. You take them down to the association so they know the whole experience.
C: In one sentence, you know- describe why viewers should watch Real Estate Wars?
J: Cause it’s a freaking trip! It’s awesome. It’s super exciting that you’re going to get to see all the different facets, all the different personalities. I’m trying to think of an analogy here… [pause] you can expect the unexpected!
