Russia Ink Hairless Sphinx Cattooing Body Oddities Animal Cruelty

Timur, a 24-year-old Russian tattooist from the Republic of Tartarstan, tattooed the chest and back of Coco, his hairless Sphinx, with the words “Carpe Deem” [sic] in a cursive curlicue font similar in style to one on his own chest and posted pictures of it on the internet, which we’ve reposted here. Yes, of course, he got scolded by animal-rights activists for animal cruelty, and rightfully so, jeezus, although his wrinkly Sphinx was anesthetized for the inking under the supervision of a vet. Says OddityCentral: “Animal tattooing became a fashion trend in Tatarstan about five years ago, when tattoo parlors had a different price list especially for pets. It’s believed the trend migrated here from Belgium, where artist Wim Delvoye started tattooing pigs, in 2007.” (via OMG blog)
