Pumping Irony: “Duck Dynasty” Creator Scott Gurney Starred in “The Fluffer”

The Fluffer Scott Gurney Phil Robertson GQ Duck Dynasty

So, the plot thickens. Yes, a decade before Scott Gurney created Duck Dynasty, he played a gay porn star in The Fluffer, a fun fact in the background of the show’s recent controversy over patriarch Phil Robertson’s homophobic comments to GQ. The Fluffer is listed on Gurney’s IMDb page, so it’s no dirty secret. His character is a gay-for-pay meth addict that becomes the object of obsession for a male film student who gets a job as his on-set fluffer. Sounds like Mr. Robertson’s kind of entertainment, no? A & E has suspended Robertson from future filming (although the new season is in the can and will air in January with Phil) A backlash to his suspension is in full swing and a petition to reinstate Phil (currently with 103,000 signatures) is circulating. Great – and people also have the right to boycott the show or send DVD’s of The Fluffer to Mr. Roberston as belated Christmas presents too. As a meme I saw online said; “Oh, you think A & E is violating Phil Robertson’s right to free speech? You must have been outraged over what happened to The Dixie Chicks.” (via BuzzFeed)
