Season 5 Returns in June!
The Queen Diva is back for the 4th season of his critically acclaimed series! Following the success of his first US tour, season 4 finds Big Freedia juggling a slew of new creative opportunities that could expand his empire just as health concerns could derail his career. While the team prepares for a European tour, dancers Skip & Flash both pursue their own dreams, and Freedia’s ex-boyfriend Devon tries to win back his Queen.
Fuse, the national music television network is back with another season of the original series Big Freedia: Queen of Bounce. With local hero and compelling personality Big Freedia as its guide, this unscripted series explores the underground world of the New Orleans hip hop scene known as “Bounce.” You will join Big Freedia as she preps for her first international tour, works through her mother’s illness and navigates the extremely competitive world of hip hop. The docu-series will also welcome fellow artists – Mr. Ghetto, Sissy Nobby and Katey Red.
Bounce Texas Style
Freedia prepares for the prestigious South by Southwest Music Festival in Austin, Texas, but with his mother’s ailing health and fighting between his two managers, Renee and Melvin, the Queen of Bounce is being pulled in too many directions. The team arrives at the festival only to endure a series of mishaps due to Renee and Melvin’s lack of focus, forcing Freedia to re-evaluate his team.
Manager Shake Up
Big Freedia’s team continues to struggle at SXSW, one of the biggest music festivals in the world. The Queen of Bounce decides that a personnel change might be in order. Freedia meets with potential new managers to replace Melvin and Renee. One candidate secures a coveted performance slot for Freedia at the festival, forcing Melvin and Renee to realize they better shape up or they might get the boot, Texas-style.
Back in New Orleans, the Queen of Bounce and her team prepare for Katy Red’s 15th anniversary performance and a lecture at Tulane University. Only problem is that the Shake Team have gone “Hollywood,” giving a whole lotta of attitude and little effort. Freedia’s guy dancers, Skip and Flash, pick up the slack, but start to resent the girls’ lack of professionalism. Will fighting amongst the dancers detract from Freedia’s live performance? Has the time come for the Shake Team to shake up or shake out?
No Place Like Home
With Vera’s health in decline, Freedia focuses on staying in New Orleans so he can work on his new album, get ready for the upcoming Mardi Gras parade and shop for a house that he could share with his mom.
New Boss of Bounce
Freedia’s live show hasn’t changed in years and his dancers seem uninspired, so the Queen of Bounce hires a fiery creative director to revamp the show and whip the dancers into shape. Meanwhile, Freedia’s new album is coming together, as two graphic artists compete for the cover design. Vera’s health has gotten worse and Freedia minimizes his travel schedule, but an overnight trip out-of town proves to be ill-fated timing, as his mom passes away.
Freedia returns home after receiving the devastating news of his mother’s passing. Freedia has to step up and be the strong one in the family, helping plan every detail from the public obituary to the very private service for family and close friends to say their last goodbyes. To make sure they give Vera, the original diva, a proper home-going, they organize a traditional second-line jazz funeral to celebrate her life.
In a clear sign that she has reached the pinnacle of success in New Orleans, Freedia is honored with the Entertainer of the Year award at New Orleans premiere music event, The Big Easy Awards. But there’s much to do before the show will be ready for the rest of the world. Freedia knows: what works locally…might not work globally – and the LA tryout for the show is only a few weeks away. Most worrying, there’s still some members of the team that don’t seem ready to work. Wilberto, the new creative director, puts the Shake Team on notice. The message is clear: Shape up or ship out. Tootie gets the message and Steph doesn’t, but is Freedia able to cut the chord and let Steph go?
Bounce Goes Hollywood
Team Freedia is ready to put all their hard work to the test as they prepare to unveil their new live show in LA, but success doesn’t come easy as they also have to juggle a music video shoot and promotional events for Freedia’s new album release. Will Team Freedia cave under the pressure and demands in LA? Will the team be able to execute the new live show successfully?
