For years it was a well-circulated rumor or no-so well-kept secret that Whitney Houston was bisexual, if not gay. US Weekly is reporting that her ex-husband, Bobby Brown’s new memoir, Every Little Step, confirms the rumours.
Brown said that the alleged romance between Houston and her friend and assistant Robyn Crawford was true,
“I know. We were married for 14 years. There are some things we talked about that were personal to us.“
Whispers about their relationship followed them throughout Houston’s career, but she always denied she was gay. She told Out magazine in 2000,
“Listen, I took a lot of grief for shit that wasn’t me, OK, ‘cause I had friends, ‘cause I was close to people. But that ain’t me. I know what I am. I’m a mother. I’m a woman. I’m heterosexual. Period.
My mother raised me to never, ever be ashamed of what I am. But I’m not a lesbian, darling. I’m not [laughs].”
Cissy Houston didn’t want Crawford in Houston’s life and did not approve of the relationship. She said in her own book,
“I didn’t want her with my daughter. There was something about the way Robyn carried herself, a kind of arrogance, that I didn’t like.“
Brown believes that if Houston’s relationship with Crawford had been acknowledged, things may have ended up differently for the late singer, who died in 2012.
“I really feel that if Robyn was accepted into Whitney’s life, Whitney would still be alive today. She didn’t have close friends with her anymore.”
Crawford, who is openly gay and married with children, has never addressed her alleged relationship with Houston –and likely never will. Unless SHE writes a book.
