HER MAJESTY ELIZABETH THE SECOND, BY THE GRACE OF GOD, OF THE UNITED KINGDOM OF GREAT BRITAIN AND NORTHERN IRELAND, AND OF HER OTHER REALMS AND TERRITORIES, QUEEN, HEAD OF THE COMMONWEALTH, DEFENDER OF THE FAITH, ON THE OCCASSION OF HER DIAMOND JUBILEE, TWO THOUSAND AND TWELVE (The Eyes of Brenda Windsor), 2012, 36″ X 48”, archival pigment, acrylic on canvas. Private Collection.
Well, that’s the official spiel for wowlebrity Trey Speegle’s portrait of The Queen. But – as the painting suggests – she also goes by the name of Brenda. Trey was joined at the grand reveal of his work at the London Jonathan Adler store by much beloved wowlebrities Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, and Kate O’Toole. In years to come the genius of Trey’s work will be fully recognized. I only hope I live to see the retrospective at Tate Britain. In the meantime, I’m loving the window treatment and the goatee.
