OMG!!!! RuPaul's new and simply divine dance remix album, Drag Race, is now available on iTunes! The whole album rocks, but after listening to the remixed versions of "Let's Turn The Night" I couldn't help but think of all the wonderful nights I've had listening to RuPaul's music. So many wild late nights that turned into a lot of fun tomorrows in the company of some fiercely fabulous folks I met along the way - and here is the commemorative slide show to prove it! Enjoy.
Although the World of Wonder Storefront Gallery as been kaput for several years months now, our struggle to clear out our storage of leftover art continues unabated. Here we have a lovely air-brushed T-shirt with an uncanny portrait of RuPaul-or-maybe-Kelly-Rowland on it, being modeled by my lovely assistant Jane. It hung in the "RuPaul's Drag Race" exhibit, although nobody remembers who brought it in, and our record keeping during that period was sketchy at best. If you did it, come and get it. In fact, this is a plea to all our artists: PICK UP YOUR ART, OR IT WILL BE WORN HOME!
For sheer gorgeousness, you can't beat my friend Amyiaa Starr with a stick. She rolled into the World of Wonder Storefront Gallery today to help us celebrate the closing of the RuPaul's Drag Race exhibit. This "hot and delectable ebony T-girl" posed, purred, and showed us a few X-tube videos of herself-- all in all, a delightful visit. I would give you the links, but not only are they NSFW, they are NSFANYONE/ANYWHERE. Whew! Be sure to come down to the gallery tonight for your last chance to purchase hot trannie art!
Behold the glory that is my friend, Jennifer Christensen. She came into the gallery today to purchase this sexy RuPaul tee, and later sent this jpg of her modeling it. If you want to have a hot snatch like Jennifer, come on down and purchase your very own piece of RuPaul memorabilia! YAY!
Dear, sweet, wonderful Holly Woodlawn. What a gift to the world she is! How many times have you watched her fuck that beer bottle in Andy Warhol's Trash? It's probably one of the sickest, saddest, most haunting moments ever captured on film. I just love her to death. And so do you. Well, bless her heart, she was kind enough to submit three gorgeous prints of herself to the RuPaul's Drag Race exhibit at the World of Wonder Storefront Gallery. There are 100 prints of each available, and she personally kissed and signed them ALL. And all for the low, low asking price of $75 a piece!
(And for more Holly madness, check out THIS behind-the-scenes take from Craig Highburger's Superstar in a Housedress, in which Holly LOSES HER DAMN MIND talking about Jackie Curtis' death!)
So our besties Jessica & Hunter gave us their full blown version of their coverage of RuPaul's Drag Race Art Show. To see all their fab videos go here. And see if you spot Blake and me for an OUTRAGEOUS!
Also on sale now at the World of Wonder Storefront Gallery, is this dreamy dyptich of new kids on the go-go block, Chris Crocker and Jeffree Star, by acclaimed artist Nick San Pedro. (When you put the two pictures together, they appear to be reading Red Carpet Suicide by Jared Shapiro. Oops, I mean Perez Hilton, of course. Silly me.)
Sure, the World of Wonder Storefront Gallery has included all your old-school favorites in its extensive collection of drag queen portraits. But in adddition to the glorious pics of Divine, Lady Bunny, Amanda Lepore, and San Francisco legend Doris Fish, we have these fantastic photos of NEW JACK legend-to-be Jeffree Star by photographer Adam David Cohen on sale now. Jeffrey is the LA-based model, fashion designer, makeup artist, and singer-songwriter who first hit it big on MySpace, and has since gone on to conquer the world. Come see these and many other stunners at the "RuPaul's Drag Race" exhibit continuing through February 7.
Dennis Hensley was on the RuPaul's Drag Race launch party pink carpet, and scored interviews with Ru, Charo, Merle Ginsberg and many more. Find out who cried, who ate, and who was scarred by the experience above.
RuPaul's Drag Race premieres Mon Feb 2 on Logo and simultaneously on LogoOnline.
In Part 2 of James' interview with RuPaul, they take a tour of RuPaul's most famous and iconic gowns, from the "Supermodel" dress to the Versace gown he wore when performing with Elton John, to the Bob Mackie creation he wore in his Vegas revue (also worn by Beyonce and Linda Carter!). They also discuss the personal blocks RuPaul had to overcome before he could achieve fame and success, and the tragedy of losing his mother on the same day he performed before millions during the LGBT March on Washington, DC, in 1993.
BritneySpears.com has posted some pictures of their main gal making a pitstop at the RuPaul's Drag Race Art Show party last week. Though, this being a drag show, nothing is quite what it seems. The Britney in question is actually Derrick Barry, professional Spears impersonator from America's Got Talent, and boyfriend of uber artist Nick San Pedro (pictured at right), one of the World of Wonder Storefront Gallery's star artists. Had you fooled for a second though, right?
RuPaul's Drag Race premieres Monday Feb 2 on Logo, and simultaneously on LogoOnline.
After last night's gala opening reception for the "RuPaul's Drag Race" art show, it's official that the World of Wonder Storefront Gallery is now unarguably the hippest in town, combining art 'n' alcohol, music, soft lighting, video, souvenirs, and the best-looking crowd in Hollywood. Eleven hundred people RSVPed to the event and more than that number turned up, in droves and in drag. It became a Fire Marshall event. The never-ending line along Cherokee Avenue was three-abreast and a wonder to behold. Before the photos come in (even photographers need to sleep it off), we have some stats that Fenton Bailey jotted down during the fray.
Perez Hilton: turned away, got in later
Benji Madden and Joel Madden: could not get in
Rachel Hunter: didn't get in
Patricia Field: turned away, hung out in parking lot where RuPaul was holding court with the head of Logo, Dave Mace
That's right: RuPaul couldn't get in to his own party.
Plus: Charo, Santino Rice, Merle Ginsberg, Guillermo Diaz from Weeds, Marsha Thomason, Howard Bragman, Judy Tenuta, Daniel Franzese, James St James, drag legends Constance Cooper and Alexis Del Lago, Bobby Trendy, Andrae Gonzalo, fabled Area doorman Gilbert Stafford, and eight drag queen contestants from the RuPaul's Drag Race reality show on Logo.
The art show is up until February 7 for those who didn't get a chance to see it.
Oh. Wait. Some photos did come in. They're from Jamie Kricker and we've put them in a slideshow up there.
