Upcoming covers from various DC titles show the impact young Damian Wayne’s death is having on the members of Batman’s extended crime fighting family. From top, left: Batman #18, Batman Inc #9, Batgirl #18, World’s Finest #10, Nightwing #18, Red Hood #18, Teen Titans #18, Detective #18. Sad stuff. On the one hand, that’s what you get when you let your 10 YEAR OLD fight crime, BRUCE. My parents wouldn’t even let me wear SPANDEX ’til I was 18, so don’t expect a lot of sympathy from me. HE’S DEAD BECAUSE YOU’RE A BAD FATHER. Period. But if this opens the door for, oh, say, maybe STEPHANIE BROWN putting on the Robin costume, then I’m all for it. And if it gives my honey-lover Tim more storyline, then so be it. But dear God, at what cost, DC. IT’S DAMIAN! One of the coolest characters EVER! Damian is a legacy character with SO MUCH story potential left. He’s BATMAN’S SON! Who was RAISED TO BE A KILLING MACHINE! Who’s on murkier moral ground than many of the villains he fights! And I’m just going to say it: The pre-52 stories where Dick Grayson was Batman and Damian was Robin were the BEST BATMAN STORIES IN THE HISTORY OF BATMAN. Bar NONE. THAT’S the direction they should have been going. Of course, I notice they haven’t cancelled the Batman & Robin title yet, so maybe there’s hope yet. His grampa IS R’as Al Ghul, after all.
