Nervous execs at the UK ITV this morning wait to hear how their big, new live quiz show The Big Call fared in the crucible of Saturday night ratings. The show, a possible companion or eventual replacement for ratings stalwart Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, offers possibly the biggest prize in game show history. Maybe. The winner is offered a mere £20,000 (measly by today’s standards) but then must choose whether they want to convert this into 100,000 lottery tickets and gamble on winning big, really big. Whichever option is rejected by the studio contestant is then offered to viewers who’ve called a premium-rate phone line to register to play. Under attack from critics and viewers for a series of failed Saturday night shows, ITV execs are hoping The Big Call converts to a big Win!
