The popular Austin & Ally and Teen Beach Movie star plays the notorious serial killer and cannibal in the upcoming My Friend Dahmer.
21-year-old Ross Lynch of Disney Channel fame takes on a new chilling role that couldn’t be anything further than his former bubble gum roots as the notorious serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer in the upcoming film My Friend Dahmer.
Directed and written by Marc Myers (How He Fell in Love, 2015), My Friend Dahmer is based on Derf Backderf’s non-fiction graphic novel of the same name. The book recalls the author’s high school friendship with the young man who would go on to rape and murder at least 17 men and boys between 1978 and 1991 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Lynch gave fans their first official look at My Friend Dahmer last week when he shared a photo of himself in character as the “Milwaukee Cannibal” to his Instagram. He also revealed that the film will receive its world premiere next month at the Tribeca Film Festival.
Myers selected Lynch due to his uncanny resemblance to the notorious killer.
Some of the real friends that grew up with Dahmer in the ’70s — the author of the book and a couple of others — came by set, and they confirmed for me how hauntingly similar Ross Lynch looks to the actual Dahmer,” says Meyers. “So much so, the author of the book asked him, ‘If you want to talk to me, please take your glasses off, because it’s freaking me out.
