Gang rape, torture, and a killer vagina – welcome to the new season of American Horror Story. I feel like each season, Ryan Murphy spins his Wheel of Perversion and bases his plot on where it stops. This year looks to be a doozy. On the one hand, last night’s premiere was offensive (said gang rape), upsetting (the slave with his mouth sewn shut – full of shit), and was maybe trying a wee bit hard (Jessica Lange’s one liners). On the other hand: Kathy Bates TORE IT UP as Madame LaLaurie, an actual New Orleans historical figure who brutally tortured and murdered slaves in the 19th century. I mean, that was some serious scenery chewing there. Also: You had Frances Conroy giving us Grace Coddington witchy realness, Emma Roberts as a Lohanesque Hollywood star turned killer witch, gorgeous Gabourey Sidibe, and Angela Basset as real-life voodoo queen Marie Laveau. There was also that nice Romeo & Juliet moment with Taissa Farmiga and Evan Peters (before Emma killed him and his frat-boy friends). I guess I enjoyed it, although a bit bludgeoned over the head by the end. That’s a good thing, though, right? What did you think? Better than the hype? Jumped the shark? Or you have to give it another couple episodes before you make up your mind?
