Transamerican Love Story

On "Love's a Beach," tonight's episode of World of Wonder's dating game, Transamerican Love Story, a rough-and-tough transgender drill sergeant puts the bachelors through beach maneuvers as they compete to spend private time with Calpernia Addams aboard a luxury yacht. Bachelor Jim is surprised by the guys' reaction to his “coming out.” Then one of the men is sent home in the elimination ceremony. That's tonight at 10 on Logo. Meanwhile, here's showgirl Kennidi, direct from Addams' Diary, performing Calpernia Addams' stunning "Stunning."

Just like he did last week, Jim Howley, one of the eight bachelors competing for Calpernia Addams' affections on Monday nights' dating series Transamerican Love Story, phoned into the World of Wonder offices again to dish the dirt on last night's episode. Girls Who Are Boys, Who Like Boys To Be Girls

Jim Howley, one of the eight bachelors competing for Calpernia Addams' affections on Monday night's new dating series Transamerican Love Story, phoned into the World of Wonder offices to dish the dirt on what it was like to be 'outed' as a transgendered man himself, in the first twenty minutes of the premiere episode no less. Eagle-eyed viewers, however, may remember Jim previously disclosing his not-so-secret gender switch on another WOW production: Sex Change Hospital. Listen to Jim's voicemail here, and visit Jim's MySpace here.

Transalphabet

Andrea James, Calpernia Addams' gal pal and costar on Logo's Transamerican Love Story, sent a note to World of Wonder today saying she "spent the whole day just trying to keep up with all the blogs, news, and emails" about last night's premiere. And adding that the cross-promotional project she shares with Addams, LGB to the T: Trans Facts from A to Z, went live on Logo today.

The Morning After

Calperniagaywired-1Says GayWired of Transamerican Love Story, which premiered last night on Logo:

Premiering this week on Logo, a different kind of dating show—TransAmerican Love Story starring Calpernia Addams. Unlike the atrocious BBC debacle There’s Something About Miriam, the guys vying for Calpernia’s affections know she’s a transgender female, so the big hook isn’t in waiting for the guys to figure out some colossal secret.

Instead, Logo has smartly positioned the show as a chance to see how a transgender woman and her suitors will navigate the often murky waters of dating.

On her official Web site, Calpernia (who we’ve previously interviewed for projects including Soldier’s Girl and Transamerica) says that in being interviewed for the show, she’s still bothered with the cringe inducing “she used to be a man” hook, but if people can tune into the show, they’ll walk away with a deeper understanding of the trans community.

And—truth be told—the show offers some bonafide laughs. As far as I’m concerned, this is a big step forward for Logo.

Interview With the Vamp

Alecandcalpernia
World of Wonder's reality dating-game show, Transamerican Love Story, airs tonight on Logo at 10PM. Edge New York has an interview with the show's transgendered star, actress-author-activist Calpernia Addams, by Bay Windows' Brian Jewell. A snippet:

Q: It sounds like the show was an intense experience. Any regrets?
A: No, the show turned out really great. It kind of freed me from some of those worries. This show was fun and finally got me relaxed. And I’m proud that on this show we have silly things, but talk about deeper things like family and what it’s like to date as a trans person. There’s so much more to this show than the average dating show.

Q: Would you do a second season?
A: It was a very fun experience, but I don’t know. The hardest thing I’ve ever done on camera is sending the guys home. I hate hurting people’s feelings. I’d rather gargle broken glass and lick a lemon than say a word to hurt anyone.

Transamerican Love Story

World of Wonder's reality dating show Transamerican Love Story, starring Calpernia Addams, was covered on Entertainment Tonight's Insider on Friday. Here's the clip, via the show's costar and Calpernia's best friend, Andrea James. The series begins airing tomorrow at 10PM on Logo.

"I still get the cringe-inducing 'She used to be a man!'" says Addams, "but I’m still happy about the coverage. If we can just get people to watch the show, they’ll elevate their understanding of trans people and the people who love them, I believe. And heck, I am sandwiched between the Anorexic Twins, the Tornado Baby, and Anna Nicole Smith’s 'grieving infant.'"

In a new profile of Calpernia Addams, in Frontiers magazine, Michael Kearns notes that the lovely transgendered star of World of Wonder's elimination dating game, Transamerican Love Story (premiering February 11 on Logo), wants to be taken, not seriously, but comically – a lightheartedness that springs from a past riddled with heartache. "No one knows how hard it is for us to date," says Addams. (Read on)

FYI

AlecmapaonellenEllen, who during her "Ellen's 12 Days of Christmas Giveaways" has been trying to outdo Oprah's "Oprah's Favorite Things," today has Tippi Hedren and comic Alec Mapa on her show. Mapa, as most of you WOW Report readers know by now, is the host of World of Wonder's reality dating series Transamerican Love Story, which begins airing in February on Logo. And, yes, Ellen's favorite things are of course a lot hipper and more covetable than Oprah's. Anyone have tickets?

Smart Alec

Alecmapa
Filipino funnyman Alec Mapa is the host of World of Wonder's Transamerican Love Story, the reality dating show starring transgender Calpernia Addams and premiering on Logo February 11. We found this clip on Spike of Mapa being very funny indeed onstage at The Abbey in West Hollywood. It unfolds in four continuous installments. Grab a cocktail (two-drink minimum) and click here.
