In the April issue of i-D magazine, Pete Burns was asked how far was too far regarding cosmetic surgery.

Oh, mark my words, and you can ask me about this again in 500 years, but we're evolving into a different species. We're a surgical melting pot. I'm obsessed with this programme Sex Change Hospital at the moment. Genius. Truckers in America getting a vagina from Trinidad, and it doesn't change them. They're still just a trucker with a vagina. Called Maria. It's that need that I have to change myself. I am very hard. I don't do what I want, I do what I need.

He's Come Undone

The Drudge Report today includes the story of Pete Burns suing a plastic surgeon for approx $2 million for ruining his mouth, his career, and his life. It's hardly a secret that Burns has had a few cosmetic alterations to his countenance (more than 100, actually), but a procedure to remove his lip implants resulted in a mutilation that left his top lip hanging off and, says Burns, "the only option was to amputate my lips." He's currently in consultations for corrective surgery in Italy, but this is just the latest in a laundry list of problems Burns has had since he was fronting the band Dead or Alive, including losing his home, being imprisoned for beating up his boyfriend, and being obligated to live with the stranger who paid his bail. That sometimes hilarious experience, not so incidentally, was the subject of the WOW documentary Pete Burns Unspun for Channel 4 in the UK, and is now available for purchase on WOW TV.

Famously known for the '80s hit “You Spin Me Round,” Pete Burns was the frontman for the band Dead or Alive, which sold over 20 million records worldwide. After a stint on UK Celebrity Big Brother, Burns’s career was reenergized, but within a few months of finishing the show, he found himself fighting bankruptcy, his boyfriend, and the law.

This documentary follows Burns after his release from prison, when he is put in the custody of the deranged fan responsible for bailing him out. This is not a joke. This is not staged. This is reality. It’s must-see TV!
