Sean Penn Opens Cannes of Worms

France, once the smokingest country in the world with the stinkingest cigarettes, installed harsh no-smoking laws recently. Since January, smoking is strictly forbidden in enclosed public places. Sean Penn, who heads the jury at the Cannes film festival this year, totally ignored the law and lit a cigarette during a press conference today. Although he took only a few draws on it before putting it out, it was a welcome cue for fellow jurors, Iranian director Marjane Satrapi and French actress Jeanne Balibar, to follow suit.
